NEW YORK -- The NHL Network will simulcast CBC's Hockey Day In Canada programming in the United States, with over 13 hours of continuous coverage planned in celebration of the sport. Hockey Day In Canada is a yearly day-long broadcast of special features that celebrate hockey in Canada. This year marks the ninth annual broadcast.

The celebration commences from Campbellton, N.B. on Sat. Feb. 21 at 12 Noon ET as Hockey Day In Canada programming begins its 13.5-hour broadcast with Ron MacLean hosting live from the Memorial Civic Centre in Campbellton, N.B. Don Cherry, Scott Morrison, Dick Irvin and other special guests will join MacLean in Campbellton.

"Rivalries," the theme of this year's celebration, will be explored throughout the day. Whether it is individual or team, town or city, province or country, hockey rivalries give the game much of its color and are found everywhere from a shinny game on the local frozen pond to an NHL showdown on a Saturday night.

Plus, with satellite locations in Plaster Rock, N.B, Windsor, Ont., Carlyle, Sask., Cold Lake, Alta. and Toronto, Ont., NHL Network viewers in the U.S. will be able to enjoy several stories highlighting the people, places and events that have shaped the game, including:
  • "Belleville McFarlands -- 50 years later" -- CBC's Hockey Night In Canada analyst Marc Crawford returns home to tell the story of the Belleville McFarlands and their improbable 1959 World Championship victory. This uniquely personal story sees Crawford relive the moments with his father and his father's teammates.
  • "Peter Maher's Campbellton" -- Calgary Flames radio play-by-play man and Campbellton, NB native Peter Maher provides viewers an introspective tour of the town and community that helped launch his career as one of the premiere NHL broadcasters.
  • "Dick Irvin's Best Rivalries" -- Legendary voice of the Montreal Canadiens and CBC's Hockey Night In Canada alumnus Dick Irvin recounts his most memorable rivalries. From Maurice Richard vs. Gordie Howe to Toe Blake vs. Punch Imlach, Irvin tells the story of the individuals who help to define his love of the game.
  • "Leading by Example" -- This is the inspirational story of Master Seaman Dale Shewchuck of the Canadian Armed Forces and his journey to help Curtis Caron, a partially paralyzed nine year old hockey player from Dartmouth, Nova Scotia.
At 3 p.m. ET the all-Canadian NHL tripleheader takes center stage as the Canadiens host Ottawa at the Bell Centre in Montreal, followed by Scotiabank Hockey Tonight, at 6:30 p.m. ET. Mats Sundin makes his return to Toronto as the Canucks face off against the Maple Leafs at 7 p.m. ET, while Edmonton hosts Calgary in the nightcap of the triple bill at 10 p.m. ET.
