MONTREAL - Canadian junior hockey team forward Angelo Esposito is out for the rest of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League season with torn knee ligaments he suffered while playing for the Montreal Junior.

The Atlanta Thrashers prospect tore his anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee during a game earlier this week against Victoriaville.

Esposito, 19, had three goals and one assist in six games for Canada at the 2009 world junior hockey championship in Ottawa last month. He scored in the gold-medal game against Sweden, which Canada won 5-1.

The six-foot-one, 180-pound forward from Montreal had tried out for the Canadian team three years before making the roster on his fourth attempt.

Orthopedic surgeon Dr. Jacques Toueg evaluated Esposito and determined the player should be ready to attend the Thrashers' training camp in September, the Junior said Friday in a statement.
