Zetterberg ruled out with back spasms

Detroit got some mixed news in the lead up to Thursday night's game in Dallas.

Both Pavel Datsyuk and Nick Lidstrom are returning to the lineup after being forced to sit one game as punishment for missing the All-Star Game without missing a full game because of injury before the break. Both missed Tuesday's 3-2 overtime loss to Columbus that ended a six-game road trip. 

But, the Red Wings will be without the recently re-signed Henrik Zetterberg, who has been ruled out because of back spasms. Zetterberg left Tuesday's game with back spasms, and the reigning Conn Smythe Trophy winner will miss this contest one day after signing a 12-year, $73 million contract - the longest in franchise history.

"Our goal is to try to keep this team together," said team vice president Steve Yzerman, who won three Stanley Cups as a Red Wings player. "He's the kind of person and the kind of player we want in this organization."

Drafted 210th overall in 1999, Zetterberg is Detroit's third-leading scorer with 43 points this season.

Detroit dropped a 5-4 decision to Dallas to open the six-game road trip back on Jan. 12. Detroit allowed almost four goals per game in those six games, going 2-2-2. But, Detroit has won seven straight at home while allowing a total of seven goals.
