If you thought there were no NHL games on the air Monday night, here's some happy news. The NHL Network will be debuting its half-hour special, "Ivy and Ice – All Access: The 2009 Winter Classic" at 9 p.m. EST Monday. It will be immediately followed by a replay of the Jan. 1 game between the Detroit Red Wings and Chicago Blackhawks (NHL Network, 9:30 p.m. EST).
The NHL Network's always stellar all-access format will be in what you might call "Classic" mode for the special, covering everything from how the rink was built in the Chicago Cubs' Wrigley Field to the rousing pre-game scene to the back-and-forth action on the ice.
By all accounts, the 2009 Bridgestone NHL Winter Classic was a smash hit. This programming night figures to be the same.
It seems like I'm kind of making it a little difficult on myself here the last two games.
