TORONTO - Staffan Kronwall scored the go-ahead goal early the third period as the Toronto Marlies beat the Chicago Wolves 3-1 in American Hockey League action Saturday.
The defenceman collected a pass off a faceoff 2:19 into the final frame and uncorked a rocket through traffic from the point to beat Chicago goalie Ondrej Pavelec.
Justin Pogge made 21 saves for Toronto (22-17-2-5) in the win while Pavelec stopped 33 shots for Chicago (22-21-2-1) in defeat.
Colin Stuart gave the Wolves the lead with a power-play goal at the 2:30 mark of the first period.
The Marlies' Kyle Rogers banged a rebound past Pavelec to tie the game 1-1 midway through the second period.
Boyd Devereaux had an assist on Kronwall's goal and added an empty netter with 30 seconds to play.
Toronto was 0-6 on the power play, while Chicago converted once in five tries.
