VOORHEES, N.J. - The injury list keeps growing for the Philadelphia Flyers.
Right-wing Joffrey Lupul will miss at least two weeks with a pulled abdominal muscle he sustained in Friday's win over Anaheim, and backup goaltender Antero Niittymaki will miss at least a week with a strained a groin muscle he sustained in a 2-1 shootout loss at Los Angeles on Saturday.
Lupul and Niittymaki join seven other Flyers on the injury list, a season high.
"I don't remember it being like this," general manager Paul Holmgren said Monday. "When you're in a position where you're dressing less than 18 healthy skaters, it's obviously not a good situation to be in."
Rookie centre Jonathon Kalinski had surgery at a New Jersey hospital on Monday to have blood drained from a leg contusion sustained against Los Angeles. Another rookie, right-wing Claude Giroux, is out indefinitely after sustaining a mild concussion in the Anaheim game.
Simon Gagne has been out with a shoulder strain, but coach John Stevens hopes to have him back for Tuesday's game at Washington. Also listed as questionable for the Capitals game are right-wing Arron Asham (knee), Darroll Powe (hip) and Josh Gratton (abdominal pull).
Meanwhile, Daniel Briere has appeared in just nine games due to a groin strain.
The Flyers have been using defencemen Luca Sbisa and Lasse Kukkonen as forwards while they scramble to get more players healthy.
The Flyers were clinging to first place in the Atlantic Division entering Monday.
