Spectator Plaza packing 'em in

Thursday, 01.01.2009 / 11:38 AM / Bridgestone NHL Winter Classic 2009

By Dan Rosen - NHL.com Senior Writer

CHICAGO -- Spectator Plaza is hopping right now. NHL Events and Entertainment Manager Nick Gennarelli's project for the Bridgestone NHL Winter Classic is definitely a rousing success.

The local cover band, Maggie Speaks, is jamming right now. They have the crowd bumping. There is a long line for the Verizon green screen challenge. They even added life-size mannequins of both a Detroit Red Wings and Chicago Blackhawks player with the head cut out. You put your face in and get a photo taken. There's a line for that, too.

Many, many people are walking around with food and beverages in one hand and a camera in another hand, snapping photos of everything and anything. Stiltwalkers, half in Blackhawks uniforms and the other half in Red Wings uniforms, are towering above everybody. Jugglers are doing their tricks.

With all the commotion going on around Wrigleyville right now, Spectator Plaza is clearly the place to be.
