COLUMBUS, Ohio - Jake Voracek scored the decisive goal in the shootout and Steve Mason stopped 25 shots through overtime to give the Columbus Blue Jackets a 2-1 victory over the Nashville Predators on Thursday night.

In the second round of the shootout, Columbus' Rick Nash and Nashville's Vernon Fiddler scored. Voracek then slid a backhander through Dan Ellis' pads before Mason blocked Martin Erat's forehand shot to clinch the win and snap the Blue Jackets' three-game skid.

It was the third loss in a row for the Predators.

Erat broke up the scoreless tie midway through the third period with a hard shot from the left wing when the teams were skating 4-on-4.

Columbus tied it with 6:51 remaining in regulation, a second after a power play ended, when defenceman Mike Commodore notched his first goal in 59 games and first with the Blue Jackets. With R.J. Umberger providing traffic, Commodore's shot from the right point eluded Ellis, who finished with 35 saves.

Each team had scoring chances before the third period.

On a two-man advantage, Nashville's Jason Arnott ripped a one-timer from the left wing that clanged off the near post.

Soon after the Blue Jackets survived more than a minute of the Predators' 5-on-3 advantage, Voracek had a breakaway. After Ellis made the stop on Voracek, the rebound came to Columbus teammate Manny Malhotra who was wide with his shot.

Columbus was in a 0-0 tie for the first time through two periods this season, while defensive-minded Nashville was in a scoreless game heading into the third period for the fourth time in its last nine games.

Notes: Columbus LW Kristian Huselius played his 500th NHL game. ... Erat came in with just two points in eight games. ... The Blue Jackets won their third straight home game. ... The Predators have won 33 of the 48 meetings between the teams.
