We are pleased to announce the launch of "The Road to the NHL Winter Classic," and with it, the official countdown to the NHL Winter Classic 2009 at Wrigley Field in Chicago.

"The Road to the NHL Winter Classic " is presented by our partner XM Radio, and begins today with the departure from Mobile, Ala., of the custom-built truck that houses the refrigeration equipment that will transform Wrigley Field into a frozen pond.

From Mobile, "The Road to the NHL Winter Classic " continues to Atlanta where the truck and our own Dan Craig will greet media and fans alike.  Tomorrow, Dan will give a guided tour of the refrigeration truck to The Weather Channel and on Wednesday, Dan will give the tour to FSN, CNN and MSG.

That night, the truck will be on display for Thrashers fans attending their team's game against the Rangers, and Thrashers Ice Girls will give away a NHL Winter Classic collectible designed to drive tune-in.  After the game, the truck will get back on the road and make its way to Chicago where we are planning a major event to coincide with its arrival.

NHL.com and NHL Live on XM 204 will provide coverage of "The Road to the NHL Winter Classic," and all the local flavor along the way, via blogs, video, pictures and live radio segments.

Please join us in celebrating the start of the NHL Winter Classic countdown, and in following the "The Road to the NHL Winter Classic."
