Two goalies score, two others record shutouts in record night for netminders

Prior to Saturday, only one goaltender in Quebec Major Junior Hockey League history had ever been credited with a goal.

By the end of the day, that number improbably grew to three.

Netminders Peter Delmas and Maxim Gougeon both scored goals on a bizarre Saturday night in the QMJHL. Delmas, the goaltender for the Lewiston Maineiacs, was credited with a goal four minutes into the second period, but it wasn't enough as the Quebec Remparts scored twice in the third period to win 4-3 and remain undefeated against Lewiston.

Gougeon, netminder for the Rimouski Oceanic, also scored a goal, but his was an insurance marker as the Oceanic downed the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles 4-1 on Saturday night.

The only other QMJHL goaltender credited with a goal was Antoine Lafleur, who scored in September of 2005 while playing for the P.E.I. Rocket.

Delmas was the last Maineiacs player to touch the puck when the Remparts pulled their goalie on a delayed penalty. Eventually, the puck found its way into Quebec's net, and Delmas was credited with putting Lewiston up 3-1.

Jean-Simon Allard cut the deficit to one midway through the second, Mathieu Loisel tied the game eight minutes into the third and Guillaume Monast completed the rally with two minutes remaining to help the Remparts improve to 4-0-0-1 against the Maineiacs this season. Quebec also won last night in the opener of a back-to-back set at Portland's Cumberland County Civic Center.

In other QMJHL action Saturday, it was: Gatineau 3, Montreal 0; Drummondville 4, Halifax 0; Saint John 3, Victoriaville 2; and Chicoutimi 3, Rouyn-Noranda 1.

At Portland, Maine, Sebastien Trudeau had the other goal for the Remparts (22-6-0-2), who have won five straight. Billy Lacasse and Michael Ward scored first-period goals for the Maineiacs (11-21-0-0), who are on a four-game losing streak.

Quebec netminder Charles Lavigne didn't register a goal, but he did make 25 saves to earn the win. Delmas stopped 31 shots.

At Sydney, N.S., Gougeon did everything, including scoring to win the game for Rimouski. He made 50 saves and added an empty-netter after the Screaming Eagles pulled goaltender Olivier Roy to gain a 6-on-4 advantage on a late third-period power play.

Mathieu Asselin scored twice and Patrick Delisle-Houde also found the net for the Oceanic (21-11-0-0).

Robert Slaney scored the lone goal for Cape Breton (20-10-1-1). Roy stopped 26 shots.

Olympiques 3, Junior 0

At Verdun, Que., Maxime Clermont's 23 saves led Gatineau past the Junior.

Hugo Laporte, Jean-Philip Chabot and Alexandre Quesnel had goals to lead the Olympiques (13-18-1-1).

Jake Allen turned aside 23 shots in defeat for Montreal (15-13-1-0).

Voltigeurs 4, Mooseheads 0

At Halifax, Nathan Dunnett stopped all 17 shots he faced as Drummondville dominated the Mooseheads to win its franchise-record 12th straight game.

Marc-Olivier Vachon, Mike Hoffman, Dany Masse and Dmitry Kulikov scored for the Voltigeurs (24-4-0-2), who outshot Halifax 42-17.

Mark Yetman made 38 saves for the Mooseheads (10-20-1-1).

Sea Dogs 3, Tigres 2

At Saint John, N.B., Ryan Sparling scored all three of the Sea Dogs' goals in a win over Victoriaville.

Michael Kirkpatrick and Christopher DiDomenico had two assists each for Saint John (18-14-1-1), which snapped a four-game losing streak.

Olivier Hinse and Brandon Hynes scored third-period goals for the Tigres (15-18-0-0), who lost for the first time in five games.

Sagueneens 3, Huskies 1

At Rouyn-Noranda, Que., Sebastien Rioux scored the winner on a power play midway through the second period as Chicoutimi downed the Huskies.

Nicolas Deschamps opened the scoring and Jacob Lagace added an empty-netter for the Sagueneens (13-14-1-2), who played their 2,500th game in franchise history.

Etienne Boutet had the lone reply for Rouyn-Noranda (17-10-3-2), which is on a three-game losing streak.
