NEW YORK - Sidney Crosby is closing in on a trio of Montreal Canadiens in voting for the NHL all-star game.

As of Tuesday morning, Habs players continued to lead all six starting spots on the Eastern Conference team, with Crosby having made up the most ground since last week.

Alex Kovalev (393,303), Saku Koivu (390,026) and Alex Tanguay (385,297) were the top three forwards, followed by Crosby (320,373) and Penguins teammate Evgeni Malkin (264,914).

The Habs are in position to become the first team ever to send six starters to the all-star game. Crosby was the leading vote-getter the last two years but won't be upset if an all-Canadiens lineup starts the Jan. 25 game at Bell Centre.

"That's something that can happen when you have a vote like that," Crosby said Monday. "If that's the way the numbers go, that's the way it is. I don't see a huge problem with it. ...

"The numbers don't lie. That's what it comes down to."

Habs defencemen Andrei Markov (440,292) and Mike Komisarek (396,754) each seem like a lock. They have more than twice as many votes as Bruins captain Zdeno Chara (197,582).

Montreal's Carey Price is also a good bet to start in goal. He has 429,087 votes so far - well ahead of Penguins goalie Marc-Andre Fleury at 204,308.
