Boston Bruins General Manager Peter Chiarelli announced today that the club has recalled defensemen Johnny Boychuk and Matt Lashoff from the Providence Bruins (American Hockey League).
Boychuk has posted a team-best 23 points on four goals and 19 assists in 22 games this season for Providence, and currently leads all AHL defensemen in both points and assists. The 6-2, 225-pound blueliner was originally drafted by the Colorado Avalanche in the second round (61st overall) of the 2002 NHL Entry Draft. He has played in four NHL games in his career, all of which were with Colorado during the 2007-2008 campaign. He spent the majority of the 2007-2008 season with Lake Erie of the AHL where he notched 8-18-26 totals in 60 games.
The 24-year-old Boychuk was acquired by the Bruins on June 24, 2008 in a trade that sent Matt Hendricks to the Avalanche.
