Canadiens ink prospect David Desharnais to two-year contract

MONTREAL - Forward David Desharnais has signed a two-year, two-way contract with the Montreal Canadiens, the NHL club announced Wednesday.

The 22-year-old has nine points in 11 games this season with the Canadiens top farm club, the Hamilton Bulldogs of the American Hockey League.

Desharnais, a five-foot-six centre, was scoring champion of the ECHL last season with 29 goals and 106 points. The Quebec City native was also named most valuable player and rookie of the year while leading the Cincinnati Cyclones to a Kelly Cup championship.
