VANCOUVER, B.C. - Boston goaltender Tim Thomas recorded his second shutout in as many nights as the Bruins blanked the Vancouver Canucks 1-0 on Tuesday.

Michael Ryder was Boston's lone scorer as the Bruins made a rare visit to Vancouver. It was the Bruins' first game at General Motors Place since Dec. 4, 2005.

The Bruins, who beat the Oilers by an identical 1-0 count in Edmonton on Monday night, posted their third straight win as they improved to 5-2-3.

The Canucks (4-5-0) suffered their first loss at home this season. They have dropped four of their past five decisions.

Boston outshot Vancouver 31-30.

The clubs last played each other in December 2006. Because of the NHL's unbalanced schedule, they have only faced each other six times since 2002.

The Bruins led 1-0 after the first period and a scoreless second.

Ryder gave Boston a 1-0 lead 10:16 into the game during a delayed Vancouver penalty with Thomas pulled in favour of a sixth attacker.

Moments later, Thomas stopped Ryan Kesler on two dangerous close-in chances. Near the end of the first period, Thomas stopped Daniel Sedin on a clear breakaway and also appeared to get his toe on Steve Bernier's ensuing rebound.

Only one penalty, Vancouver defenceman Mattias Ohlund's tripping infraction was called in the opening 20 minutes.

In the scoreless second period, Vancouver's power play struggled during its two attempts, after going 4-for-6 against Edmonton on Saturday. Jason Krog's shot at an open net hit the side of the goal on the first man-advantage opportunity. Then Mason Raymond shot from the slot went over the net during the second.

During another Vancouver power play in the third, Thomas foiled both Sami Salo and Henrik Sedin. Canuck goaltender Roberto Luongo was shaken up with about nine minutes left in the third period after taking a hard Milan Lucic shot on his right shoulder.

After receiving some attention from a trainer, Luongo stayed in the game.

Lucic received another 2007 Memorial Cup championship ring Tuesday morning to replace one that was stolen from his family's Vancouver home in July. Lucic, 20, led the Giants to the 2007 national major junior title and was named the tournament's most valuable player. He played his first NHL game in his hometown Tuesday night after unexpectedly cracking the Bruins roster as a rookie last season. . . . Boston's Phil Kessel, 21, played his 135th consecutive contest since missing 11 games after undergoing testicular cancer surgery in early 2007. Kessel's milestone was timely, because Tuesday's game was designated Vancouver's awareness night in the league's Hockey Fights Cancer campaign
