Isles' DiPietro questionable against Rangers

UNIONDALE, N.Y. - New York Islanders goalie Rick DiPietro will see a doctor on Monday for an undisclosed injury and is questionable to play that night against the New York Rangers.

DiPietro, who has played in only three games following off-season knee surgery, was injured Saturday night during the first period of the Islanders' 4-3 home loss to the Carolina Hurricanes. He allowed two goals on 12 shots and didn't return after the intermission.

The 27-year-old has started three straight games after serving as the backup to No. 2 goalie Joey MacDonald for the first four regular-season contests. The Islanders seemed reluctant to give DiPietro any playing time as he got back into condition, but curiously dressed him for the games instead of calling up a healthy backup.

That won't be the case Monday if DiPietro is ruled out against the Rangers. The Islanders recalled Yann Danis on Sunday on an emergency basis from Bridgeport of the AHL.

New York also recalled defenceman Brett Skinner on an emergency basis from Bridgeport on Sunday.
