According to Rule 23.5, "any player who incurs a total of two game misconduct penalties for stick-related infractions, Boarding (Rule 42) or Checking from Behind (Rule 44), shall be suspended automatically for the next game … for each subsequent game misconduct penalty, the automatic suspension shall be increased by one game."
Hollweg received Game Misconducts on Jan. 5 vs. Edmonton and Feb. 3 vs. Montreal under Rule 44.5 (checking from behind) in 2007-08 as a member of the New York Rangers and on Oct. 1 and Oct. 13 against St. Louis under Rule 42.5 (boarding) this season with Toronto.
Hollweg is suspended for the Maple Leafs' next three games, Oct. 17 at NY Rangers, Oct. 18 at Pittsburgh and Oct. 21 vs. Anaheim.
Under the terms of the Collective Bargaining Agreement, Hollweg is considered a repeat offender. Accordingly, he forfeits $18,750 in salary based on the number of games in the season (82), rather than the number of days (186). The money goes to the Players’ Emergency Assistance Fund.
