Payment's game winner lifts Cape Breton to 3-2 win over Victoriaville

SYDNEY, N.S. - Pierre-Olivier Payment's goal early in the third period lifted the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles to a 3-2 victory over the Victoriaville Tigres in the lone QMJHL game Tuesday night.

Payment's goal, his first of the season, gave the Screaming Eagles (9-1-0-0) a 3-1 lead at 3:28 of the third period. Victoriaville's Antoine Lapierre answered with his first of the year at 15:01, but the Tigres (5-6-0-0) could get no closer.

Murdock MacLellan added a pair of power-play goals to pace Cape Breton, which leads the overall QMJHL standings and has won three straight games. Robert Slaney had two assists in the victory.

Brandon Hynes had the other goal for Victoriaville, losers of two in a row.

Christopher Holden turned aside 28 shots to earn the win for the Screaming Eagles.

Tigres netminder Kevin Poulin made 28 saves in defeat.
