Wings to honor Delvecchio, Lindsay

DETROIT -- The Red Wings will honor two of their most esteemed alumni next month with Alex Delvecchio Night Thursday, October 16, and Ted Lindsay Night Saturday, October 18 at Joe Louis Arena. To commemorate Delvecchio and Lindsay’s countless contributions to hockey, the Red Wings will unveil specially commissioned statues of the players on their respective nights on the Joe Louis Arena concourse. The sculptures are commissioned by artist Omri R. Amrany, the creator of the Gordie Howe statue, which was unveiled in April of 2007.

Fans are asked to arrive early for on-ice presentations prior to the games as the Wings take on the Vancouver Canucks at 7:30 p.m. on Delvecchio Night and the New York Rangers at 7 p.m. on Lindsay Night. Delvecchio and Lindsay will each be presented with original artworks commissioned by artist David Arrigo. All fans in attendance on Oct. 16 will receive an 11x17 canvas replica of the Delvecchio artwork, sponsored by Blue Cross Blue Shield. Fans attending on Oct. 18 will be given a replica of the Lindsay artwork, sponsored by AT&T.

Delvecchio spent his entire NHL career as a member of the Red Wings from 1950-74, serving as team captain for 12 full seasons, surpassed in Wings' history only by Steve Yzerman.
