Dawn of a new ice age

Wednesday, 10.01.2008 / 2:36 PM / News
You're witnessing a watershed moment in hockey history.

The new NHL.com represents the culmination of a massive effort to merge the NHL's strongest assets – video, audio, editorial, photography and fan voice – into one complete package.

What you have here is a more dynamic site that brings home imagery capturing  the power and essence of what makes hockey the greatest sport in the world.

For fans all over the world, NHL.com presents unparalleled access to live games via video, statistics and highlights. It's the only place on the internet where you can get official stats and player details in the blink of an eye.

Our new Game Center Live application brings fans into the action with select video highlights, real-time stats, play-by-play tracking, in-game photos, audio feeds, social networking and much more.

We've joined forces with Yahoo! Sports to provide fans with the web's most popular fantasy hockey game.

What else is new?

There's the Single Sign-On feature that permits fans to sign on once and have a relevant, personalized experience in every content area at NHL.com -- editorial, multimedia, images, product and service offerings.

"What's next" programming.  An approach to Web site programming that goes beyond simple content population to offer fans layer upon layer of relevant content about their favorite team and players.

A bigger editorial voice.  In addition to more exclusive editorial, content will now be bundled with other relevant media such as pictures, video and statistics.

Amazing Photos.  With rich, dynamic imagery from across the League, photos will now have a dedicated location, allowing fans to "flip and browse," as well as instantly purchase photos of their favorite moments.

Richer Content.  The new NHL.com is the most immersive hockey experience on the Web today. It has special features such as schedule pages that tell fans where to find the broadcast of local games; ticket pages that offer pop-up maps of the arenas; and player pages that include photo galleries and video highlights of every active player in the NHL.

And of course, there are the fans. We've included fan commentary right on the home page and in every story. Now, using NHL Connect, fans can comment on stories and they can also continue to create their own personal pages, blogs and photo galleries.

We've taken the best hockey site on the internet and made it better. Not just for hockey or the good of the NHL, but really for our fans.

We hope you enjoy the new internet home for hockey!

Quote of the Day

I don't know how he does it. I don't know how he gets his body parallel with the player and pulls it through his legs like that. I know he's tried it a couple times in practice and it's never worked, so how he does it in a game, it's incredible.
