The party keeps getting bigger.

NHL Face-Off Rocks, the League’s opening day viewing party and concert spectacular at Fox Theatre in Detroit on Thursday, Oct. 9, now sports more musical talent as Grammy Award-winner Alanis Morissette will join with Def Leppard to get the NHL’s 2008-09 season off to a rocking start.

Morissette will join the opening night festivities in Detroit via satellite from Place des Arts in Montreal. Morissette is currently touring in support of her critically acclaimed new album, Flavors of Entanglement, and the single “Not As We.”

CBC and VERSUS will broadcast Morissette’s performance in high-definition as part of their national NHL coverage throughout Canada and the U.S., respectively, on Oct. 9.  NHL.com and CBCSports.ca will provide streaming coverage of NHL Face-Off Rocks 2008.

NHL Face-Off Rocks 2008 blends hockey and music for hockey fans in North America. The Detroit Red Wings will raise their 2008 Stanley Cup
championship banner – the 11th in team history -- on Oct. 9, in the season opener against the Toronto Maple Leafs. VERSUS and CBC will be on hand at Joe Louis Arena to broadcast the game and also will show live performances from Morissette in Montreal and rock band Def Leppard from Fox Theatre in downtown Detroit.

Fans at Fox Theatre will enjoy the Red Wings game broadcast, including the championship banner-raising ceremony, an in-person performance from Def Leppard and Morissette’s performance via satellite. A DJ will entertain the audience throughout the event.

Morissette has become one of the most influential singer-songwriter-musicians in contemporary music. Her deeply expressive music and performances have earned vast critical praise, seven Grammy Awards, and a dedicated fan base, with album sales exceeding 40 million.

Her debut album, Jagged Little Pill, is one of the most successful albums of all time. Morissette’s songs have appeared on soundtracks for films such as Dogma, The Devil Wears Prada, The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, and City Of Angels (the latter two earning her a Golden Globe nomination for Best Original Song and Grammys for Best Rock Song and Best Female Rock Vocal Performance, respectively).

Morissette's new album, Flavors of Entanglement (Maverick/Reprise), is her first original studio release in four years.

Quote of the Day

There's no discouragement in that room. There's no issues there at all to be honest with you. It's more about, 'Hey, it's opportunities for players.' And if we become that bad of a team because of one player, it's not a real good sign for our hockey club. So this is part of sports. It's part of hockey.
