Advantage Margin -9
There were plenty of power plays in the 41 games at Air Canada Centre: Both the Leafs and their opponents had 185 advantages. Toronto had 158 and allowed 167 in its 41 road games.
TORONTO MAPLE LEAFS
2007-08 SEASON STATS
Category | Rank (Conference) |
2007-08 Points | 83 (12th eAst/24TH NHL) |
Change from 2006-07 | -8 |
Home Points | 42 (13th eAst/26th NHL) |
Away Points | 41 (11th East/18th NHL) |
Jason Blake, a disappointment in his first season with the Leafs, wasn't bad at even strength -- his 40 points were second to Mats Sundin's 48. But he had just 12 points on the power play.
Special Teams Goal Margin -22
Toronto's special teams were especially dreadful at home. The power play scored 31 goals but allowed seven shorthanded tallies, while the penalty-killers surrendered 46 and scored only twice.
Goals by defensemen 38
Pavel Kubina (11 goals) had his best season as a Leaf and Tomas Kaberle (8-45-53) was third on the team in scoring as well as converting three of his four shootout attempts.
Overtime Record Total: 8-7-4 | OT: 5-7 | SO: 3-4
The Leafs lost five of six overtime games on the road, including two awful losses at Carolina in games the Leafs led in the final 15 seconds of regulation. They did win both road games that went to shootouts.
Times Scored First 37 | Record 22-8-7
Not only were the Leafs among the League's weakest teams in getting the first goal, they were among the poorest when they got it. Toronto was one of only five teams that failed to win at least 60 percent of the time when scoring first.
Best 07-08 Number 16-9-1
Toronto's combined record in February and March. The Leafs missed the Playoffs for the third consecutive season, but it wasn't a case of the team giving up down the stretch.
Worst 07-08 Number 75.1
Toronto's penalty-killing percentage at home, the worst in the NHL. Their 46 PPGs allowed at home were six more than anyone else, and only one team allowed more than the 185 opportunities the Leafs gave their visitors.
Scheduling
The Leafs have no homestand or road trip longer than four games. They have two Western trips before mid-December, but end with five of their last seven games at the Air Canada Centre.
