Four teams face the ultimate test

Alex Ovechkin and the Washington Capitals hope to knock off Kimmo Timonen and the Philadelphia Flyers tonight in Game 7 of their quarterfinal series at the Verizon Center.

The first round of the Stanley Cup playoffs draws to a conclusion Tuesday night with two Game 7s.

At 7 p.m., the Washington Capitals try to complete a comeback from a 3-1 series deficit when they host the Philadelphia Flyers at the Verizon Center. At 10 p.m., the San Jose Sharks look to stave off the seventh-seeded Calgary Flames, who were able to force the series to the distance when they won 2-0 Saturday night.

Here's what to watch:

* The Flyers, who won three of the first four games of the series and scored 16 goals during that span, have scored just four goals in their last two games – both losses.

* Philadelphia center Jeff Carter's totals of three goals and one assist for four points in the series are misleading. Carter had two goals and one assist in Game 4, but has just one goal in the rest of the series.

Briere

* Flyers center Daniel Briere, who leads the playoffs with four power-play goals, has 47 points in 46 career playoff games. Briere, who has been to the Eastern Conference Final with the Buffalo Sabres the previous two seasons, had a minus-3 rating in Game 6.

* The Capitals, who have scored fewer than three goals in just one of the six games this series, have scored 18 goals this series. Washington, which won its first division title since the 2000-01 season, has been outshot in four of the six games this series.

* Washington left wing Alex Ovechkin has three goals and four assists for seven points in the series, but has a minus-1 rating. Ovechkin has played at least 20 minutes in every game in the series, including 28 minutes in Game 4, which went into double overtime.

* Capitals defenseman Mike Green, who leads the League's defensemen with seven points in the playoffs, has five goals and seven assists for 12 points in 10 combined regular season and playoff games against the Flyers.

Iginla

* Calgary captain Jarome Iginla, who had his three-game multiple-point scoring streak snapped in Game 6, is tied with San Jose left wing Ryane Clowe for the most points in the series, with eight. Iginla, who is one of just 12 players in the League with at least five assists in the playoffs, leads the team with 22 shots on goal.

* Washington center Brooks Laich, who had 37 points in 82 games during the regular season, has one goal and four assists for five points and a plus-2 rating in his last four games. Laich, whose favorite band is Guns N' Roses, averaged 14:02 of playing time during the regular season, but has averaged 18:27 of ice time in the playoffs.

* Calgary left wing Alex Tanguay, who has played more than 16 minutes in just three games in this series, has a four-game assist streak. Tanguay, whose next assist will be the 40th of his playoff career, has had a higher plus-minus rating than plus-1 in just one playoff season; he is an even player in this series.

* The Flames, who have scored more than three goals in just one game against the Sharks, have yielded more than three goals just once in the series.

Campbell

* San Jose defenseman Brian Campbell, who had three goals and 16 assists for 19 points in 20 games with the Sharks this season, has just two assists in this series while playing an average of 25:14 per game. Campbell, whose favorite band is the Tragically Hip, has just two assists in his last 14 playoff games.

* Sharks left wing Milan Michalek, who was third on the team with 55 points in the regular season, has no points in this series.

* San Jose center Joe Thornton, who had just one assist and a minus-4 rating against the Flames during the regular season, has one goal and five assists for six points and a plus-1 rating in this series. Thornton, who owns cats named Lenny and Indy, had 34 more points than any other Shark during the regular season.
