Coyotes sign Montoya, Spina plus 2 AHL players

GLENDALE, Ariz. (AP) -The Phoenix Coyotes re-signed goaltender Al Montoya, who was acquired in a February trade with the New York Rangers and spent all of last season in the minors.

Phoenix also re-signed three other minor leaguers - left wing David Spina, defenseman Drew Fata and right wing Derek Nesbitt.

The length and financial terms of the contracts were not disclosed.

Montoya was 8-6-0 with a 2.59 goals-against average in 14 games last season for Phoenix's AHL affiliate in San Antonio. The former University of Michigan star was 16-8-3 with a 2.54 GAA with the Rangers' AHL affiliate in Hartford before the trade.

Spina, a native of nearby Mesa, had 21 goals and 29 assists in 76 games for San Antonio last season.

Fata had three goals, 11 assists and 197 penalty minutes last season for Bridgeport of the AHL. He also played five games for the New York Islanders, getting one assist and five penalty minutes.

Nesbitt had 17 goals and 18 assists last season for Rockford of the AHL.
