Canucks' Kesler to have hip surgery

Associated Press

VANCOUVER, British Columbia (AP) -Vancouver Canucks center Ryan Kesler will miss the rest of the regular season after undergoing hip surgery scheduled for next Monday in Colorado.

Kesler has six goals and 10 assists in 48 games this season, mostly while centering the Canucks' third line. The 22-year-old Michigan native was experiencing soreness in his hip before the recent All-Star break, but was expected to play through it.

That changed after consulting Dr. Marc Philippon, who also performed hip surgery on Canucks center Brendan Morrison last summer. Now Kesler is expected to miss 12 to 16 weeks.
