VANCOUVER, B.C. - Canadian music star Michael Buble will be named as a minority owner of the Vancouver Giants of the Western Hockey League on Thursday.

A Vancouver radio station reported Wednesday that Buble will get a minority stake in the junior club from Giants majority owner Ron Toigo.

Club spokesman Dave Sheldon said he could not comment before a news conference scheduled Thursday.

"Buble will be at the press conference," said Sheldon, adding details on Buble's involvement with the team will be announced. Toigo declined an interview request relayed through the team spokesman.

Buble and Toigo are old friends. They are also part of an investment group, headed by Toigo, that is redeveloping a Vancouver-area golf course.

Buble, a 33-year-old Burnaby, B.C., native, has won numerous Juno awards and a Grammy award for his music. He has sold more than 20 million records worldwide.

NHL legend Gordie Howe and former Toronto Maple Leafs and Vancouver Canucks coach Pat Quinn also have minority stakes in the Giants. Howe and Quinn's ownership positions will not change.

"It's not going to be addition by subtraction," said Sheldon.
