Eric Staal notches two assists in Hurricanes' win

Sunday, 09.22.2013 / 1:38 AM

Carolina's 5-foot-5 forward Nathan Gerbe got into a fight and scored a power-play goal at Bell Centre, helping the Carolina Hurricanes top the Montreal Canadiens 3-1.

Gerbe fought 5-foot-9 Brendan Gallagher in the first period before Drayson Bowman and Jeff Skinner scored for the Hurricanes. Gerbe got his goal with 2:21 remaining in the second period to make it 3-0.

Eric Staal had two assists. A shot by Montreal's Andrei Markov bounced off teammate Michael Bournival with 8:02 remaining to spoil the shutout for Anton Khudobin, who made 40 saves.

Montreal defeated Carolina 6-0 Friday in Quebec. This was the fourth game in four nights for the Hurricanes.
