Filppula, Erne lead Lightning to shootout win

Thursday, 09.19.2013 / 12:58 AM

Valtteri Filppula and Adam Erne scored in the shootout as the Lightning rallied from a 3-0 deficit to beat St. Louis at Amway Center in Orlando, Fla.

Dmitrij Jaskin scored twice for the Blues, who took a 3-0 lead on Jaden Schwartz's goal at 15:56 of the second period. Brian Elliott made 24 saves in the loss.

Erne scored two power-play goals in regulation to help the Lightning mount a comeback. Erne made it 3-1 at 18:46 of the second before cutting the deficit in half 1:31 into the third. Tom Pyatt tied it with an even-strength goal at 9:11.

"I think we lost energy in the third period," Blues coach Ken Hitchcock said. "We made tired plays with the puck, we made mistakes killing penalties. Two games in a row, we've made a lot of mistakes killing penalties. We've got people who don't ever kill penalties killing penalties. We made a lot of errors 5-on-4. Our 5-on-5 play, we generated quite a bit."

Cedrick Desjardins started in goal for Tampa Bay before being relieved by Kristers Gudlevskis.
