Chiasson, Benn lead Stars to shootout victory

Thursday, 09.19.2013 / 1:01 AM

Alex Chiasson and Jamie Benn each scored in the shootout as Dallas edged Florida at American Airlines Center.

Cody Eakin and Jamie Benn scored 30 seconds apart late in the second period to give the Stars a 2-0 lead. Kari Lehtonen started in goal and stopped all 10 shots he faced.

"I think the biggest part is that we want to keep getting better each and every game for these exhibition games that we have," Benn said. "We definitely cleaned it up a bit this game; we played pretty well. We scored a power-play goal, probably gave up a lead that we shouldn't have, but we won in the shootout, which is the biggest thing."

The Panthers rallied in the third period on late goals 14 seconds apart by Drew Shore and Scottie Upshall. Jacob Markstrom went the distance for Florida and made 28 saves.

"We battled back and I think that's especially important this early in the year," Shore said. "It shows a lot of character in that room."

Cristopher Nilstorp stopped 12 of 14 shots for the Stars.
