Flames rally to edge Oilers in shootout

Sunday, 09.15.2013 / 12:56 AM

Edmonton Oilers forward Taylor Hall started his experiment as a center with a goal 24 seconds into the game, but the Calgary Flames scored three in the third period to tie it before winning in a shootout.

Hall's wrist shot went off the glove of Flames goalie Kari Ramo. The usual left wing won 65 percent of his faceoffs in the split-squad game played at Rexall Place.

Lance Bouma, Josh Jooris and TJ Galiardi scored in the third period for Calgary, which trailed 4-1 early in the second. Ben Street and Dennis Wideman had the other Flames goals.

Galiardi's power-play goal with 4:51 left in regulation tied the game. Sven Baertschi had his second assist. Reto Berra made 14 saves, and stopped Hall and Linus Omark in the shootout.

Baertschi and Roman Horak scored in the shootout against Olivier Roy.

Ryan Smyth, Kyle Platzer, Marc Arcobello and Jesse Joensuu each had a goal for Edmonton; 13 Oilers had at least one point. Starting goalie Devan Dubnyk made 12 saves on 13 shots in his 28 minutes, before Roy allowed four goals on 22 shots.
