Wild aim to clinch playoff spot against Bruins

Wednesday, 08.06.2014 / 4:52 AM

BRUINS (53-18-7) at WILD (41-16-12)

TV: NESN, FS-N

Last 10: Boston 7-1-2; Minnesota 5-3-2

Season series: This is the second and final game between the Boston Bruins and Minnesota Wild. The Bruins earned a 4-1 win against Minnesota at TD Garden on March 17.

Big story: Minnesota inched closer to returning to the Stanley Cup Playoffs with a 1-0 win against the Winnipeg Jets on Monday night. The Wild would clinch a playoff berth if they get at least one point against the Bruins or if Phoenix Coyotes lose to the Columbus Blue Jackets in any fashion or defeat the Blue Jackets in a shootout, or if the Dallas Stars lose to the Nashville Predators in any fashion.

Boston has already clinched the top seed in the Eastern Conference and has a two-point lead on the St. Louis Blues in the Presidents' Trophy race with four games remaining.

Team Scope:

Bruins: Due to a minor injury, right wing Jarome Iginla did not play for the second time in the past three games Saturday when the Bruins earned a 5-2 win against the Philadelphia Flyers. Iginla did not practice Monday, nor did defenseman Kevan Miller (also sustained a minor injury), but they did travel with the team to Minnesota and are day-to-day, according to coach Claude Julien.

"Yeah, they're coming on the trip with us," Julien told the Bruins website Monday. "They're still, I say 'day-to-day,' so we're just going to be cautious this time of year, we're just not pushing it. But they're coming on the trip and is there a chance they could play? Yes."

Wild: Goaltender Ilya Bryzgalov has been sensational since arriving via trade from the Edmonton Oilers last month. He recorded his second straight shutout Monday and third in his past 13 starts to lead Minnesota past Winnipeg at MTS Centre.

Bryzgalov is 6-0-3 with a 1.67 goals-against average and .929 save percentage in 10 games with the Wild. He hasn't allowed a goal in 142:15.

"What you saw tonight is what we have seen consistently game after game," coach Mike Yeo said of his goaltender. "Just very calm in the net and making a lot of very tough saves look easy."

Who's hot: Bruins center David Krejci had a goal and an assist Saturday. He has six points (one goal, five assists) in the past five games. Forward Milan Lucic has three goals and one assist in the past two … Wild forward Charlie Coyle had the lone goal Monday, his fifth in the past nine games.

Injury report: Bruins defenseman Adam McQuaid (quad) is out. … Minnesota forwards Mikael Granlund (upper body) and Jason Zucker (quad), defenseman Clayton Stoner (lower body) and goaltenders Darcy Kuemper (upper body), Josh Harding (illness) and Niklas Backstrom (abdominal) are out. Defenseman Keith Ballard (groin) is questionable.
