Senators weary of Flames' ability to play spoiler

Season series: This is the second and final game between the Calgary Flames and Ottawa Senators. The Flames had four different goal scorers in a 4-1 victory against the Senators on March 5.

Big story: Calgary begins a five-game road trip hoping to continue its recent stretch of success. Ottawa, coming off a 5-3 win Friday against the defending Stanley Cup champion Chicago Blackhawks, seeks its first two-game winning streak since Feb. 4-6, looking to keep their faint Stanley Cup Playoff hopes alive.

Team Scope:

Flames: Calgary picked up its second win in three games against a playoff team with a 4-3 win against the New York Rangers on Friday. The Flames, 6-3-0 in their past nine games, have picked up four of those wins against teams battling for playoff positioning -- they also beat the Anaheim Ducks and Dallas Stars earlier in the month.

"We're playing teams with a lot to lose. It's a huge step in the right direction to be in every game and winning a lot of them," forward Kevin Westgarth said after the win Friday.

Calgary has a few more opponents on its schedule needing wins to make the playoffs and looks to continue its recent success, having scored 35 regulation goals in the past nine games.

"Playoffs is the goal. We're not there this year but it's huge to get those fundamentals and every night get that blue collar work ethic … it's paying dividends thus far," Westgarth said. "We are looking to play spoiler a lot at the end of the season."

Senators: Despite being a long shot to make the playoffs, the Senators have not yet been eliminated and goalie Craig Anderson said his team needs to not think about running the table, but rather each individual game.

"You cannot focus on what could be or what should be … you have to just stay in the moment and take it one game at a time. Anything can happen, but if we think, 'Oh yeah, we can win the next eight and get ourselves in,' you're just defeating yourself," Anderson said after the win Friday. "You have to go one game at a time, and if we continue to win, anything can happen. You just don't know and you have to play it out."

Senators coach Paul MacLean, who was pleased with his team's effort Friday, said they can't afford a letdown against the Flames.

"You know who you are playing. That's a big part of how we played [Friday]," MacLean said after the game. "You know who you are playing. We have to now get ready for [Calgary] who we also know who we are playing. That's our biggest concern."

Who's hot: Flames forward Mike Cammalleri has 11 goals and 18 points in his past 14 games. Goalie Karri Ramo has won four of his past five starts and has allowed nine goals in his past six games. … Senators forward Clarke MacArthur has three goals in five games. Forward Kyle Turris has points in four of his past five games.

Injury report: Flames defensemen Dennis Wideman (upper body) and forwards David Jones (upper body) and Markus Granlund (shoulder) are out. Defenseman Ladislav Smid (upper body) is doubtful. … Senators forward Bobby Ryan (hernia) is out for the season. Defenseman Chris Phillips (upper body) is doubtful.
