Flyers, Canadiens attempt to extend win streaks

Tuesday, 04.02.2013 / 4:32 PM

CANADIENS (23-7-5) AT FLYERS (15-17-3)

TV: RDS, TSN, CSN-PH

Last 10: Montreal 7-2-1; Philadelphia 4-4-2

Season series: This is the second of three games between the teams this season, but the only one in Philadelphia. On Feb. 16, Peter Budaj stopped 18 of 19 shots for the Canadiens in a 4-1 win at Bell Centre.

Big story: Can the Flyers win their season-best third straight game? Or will the Canadiens push their win streak to four?

Team Scope:

Canadiens: Carey Price thought he had found the perfect way to celebrate his 300th NHL game -- by scoring his first goal.

He had the opportunity with 44 seconds left in regulation of the Canadiens' game Monday against the Carolina Hurricanes. The opposing net was empty and the Canadiens had a 4-1 lead.

"That was a perfect opportunity, too, and I threw a muffin up the middle of the ice,” Price told the Montreal Gazette. "It was my best opportunity, definitely. … I had enough time. I had to settle it off the boards, then one of the Staal brothers [Jordan] came right up the middle of the ice and I panicked. I just shot and it wasn’t very good."

The shot never made it past the Montreal blue line, and Price was left to settle for the 142nd win of his career.

Flyers: Jay Rosehill went through his first practice with Philadelphia on Tuesday, but likely won't make his debut until Thursday, when the Flyers visit the Toronto Maple Leafs -- the team Rosehill made his NHL debut with during the 2009-10 season. In parts of three seasons with the Leafs, Rosehill had five points and 198 penalty minutes in 72 games.

"It'll be different and it'll be exciting and there will be some familiar faces on the other side of the room there," Rosehill told CSNPhilly.com on Tuesday. "It will be exciting to get back to that city and play in that barn again. Hopefully, that happens."

Rosehill brings an element the Flyers haven't had much of this season with the long-term absence of Jody Shelley -- Rosehill has been in 18 regular-season NHL fights, and fought eight times this season in the American Hockey League. Rosehill said Flyers general manager Paul Holmgren said Rosehill can fill some "gaps" in the organizational depth chart.

"I think they've got a lot of guys on this team that are playing right now who are tough and can handle things," Rosehill said. "I know they like to have a few guys out there who can do that thing. That's kind of always been their tradition here. I’m happy to be here and be one of those guys. … They're excited to have me, and hopefully I fill the gap."

Who's hot: Canadiens defenseman P.K. Subban has six points in the past three games. … Flyers captain Claude Giroux has points in five of his past six games, with three goals and six assists in that span.

Injury report: Canadiens forwards Colby Armstrong (lower body), Rene Bourque (concussion) and Ryan White (ankle) are out, as is defenseman Raphael Diaz (concussion). … The Flyers will be missing forwards Danny Briere (concussion), Maxime Talbot (leg) and Jody Shelley (hip), as well as defensemen Braydon Coburn (shoulder) and Andrej Meszaros (shoulder). Defenseman Nicklas Grossmann is questionable (upper body).
