WHL Roundup: Laurencelle leads Silvertips to 5-1 win over Chiefs

SPOKANE, Wash. - Remi Laurencelle scored twice and set up another goal as the Everett Silvertips downed the host Spokane Chiefs on Sunday in Western Hockey League action.

The 20-year-old Laurencelle, who leads Everett in scoring with 12 goals and 23 points in 23 games, has seven goals in his last four contests — including three straight two-goal outings.

Brandon Ralph, Matt Fonteyne and Carson Stadnyk also scored for the Silvertips (14-7-2), who got a 25-save performance from Carter Hart.

Riley Whittingham kept the Chiefs (14-10-3) from being blanked with the first goal of the game, just 1:23 into the first period.

Matt Berlin started in net for Spokane but was yanked after being beat by Laurencelle in the second period to make it 4-1 He gave up four goals on 16 shots in 35:31 of action. Tyson Verhelst went the rest of the way and stopped 10-of-11 shots in relief.

Everett went 0 for 3 on the power play while the Chiefs failed to score on their only chance with the man advantage.
