Bruins' Marchand out indefinitely with concussion

Boston Bruins forward Brad Marchand sustained a concussion Saturday against the Montreal Canadiens, coach Claude Julien told the Bruins website Sunday.

"We're going about it with the League's protocol with concussions and his return will be dictated by how quickly he recovers ... so we have no timetable for him," Julien said.

Marchand left Boston's 4-2 loss midway through the third period after taking an inadvertent elbow to the side of his head from Canadiens forward Dale Weise. He was helped off the ice and did not return to the game.

The Bruins (0-2-0) are also missing defensemen Zdeno Chara (upper body) and Dennis Seidenberg (back). Chara practiced Sunday and is questionable for the game Monday against the Tampa Bay Lightning (1 p.m. ET; TVA Sports, SN360, SUN, NESN).

"We haven't made that decision yet," Julien told Comcast Sports New England. "I think it's going to be done at some point with the medical staff. We'll see if it warrants a go or not. If it doesn't then we'll give him a few more days. That decision will probably be made [on Monday].

"It's about making sure the [re-injury] risk [isn’t there]. He's very tolerant when it comes to pain. [Chara] is pretty tough there. It's just if he's good to go, and what's the risk factor."

Defenseman Matt Irwin was placed on waivers, Julien said. Irwin was minus-5 in two games.
