WHL Roundup: Reid Duke has hat trick as Wheat Kings rout Ice 13-1

BRANDON, Man. - Reid Duke scored a hat trick and added a pair of assists as the Brandon Wheat Kings had nine different goal scorers in a 13-1 rout of the Kootenay Ice on Friday night in Western Hockey League action.

Nolan Patrick and Tanner Kaspick each struck twice for the Wheat Kings (4-1-1). Jayce Hawryluk and Macoy Erkamps had a goal and three assists each while Stelio Mattheos, John Quenneville, Braylon Shmyr and Connor Gutenberg rounded out the attack.

Max Patterson answered with a goal in the third period for Kootenay (1-6-0).

Logan Thompson made 22 saves for the win in goal. Keelan Williams started for the Ice but was pulled after kicking out 25-of-33 shots in 40 minutes. Wyatt Hoflin went the rest of the way and turned aside 11-of-16 shots.

Brandon scored four times on five power plays while Kootenay was 0 for 2.

HITMEN 4 REBELS 1

CALGARY — Jake Bean scored twice and added two assists as the Hitmen got past Red Deer.

Travis Sanheim added a goal and three assists while Radel Fazleev had a goal and two assists for Calgary (5-1-0).

Ivan Nikolishin had the lone offence for the Rebels (4-2-0) with a goal in the first period.

PATS 6 GIANTS 5 (OT)

REGINA — Adam Brooks scored 4:11 into overtime and tacked on an assist as the Pats edged Vancouver.

Rykr Cole and Riley Woods also had a goal and assist each for Regina (2-3-0). Sergey Zborovskiy, Lane Zablocki and Connor Hobbs supplied the rest of the offence.

Ty Ronning had a hat trick for the Giants (3-2-2) while Dakota Odgers and Ty Comrie added the others.

HURRICANES 7 TIGERS 0

LETHBRIDGE, Alta. — Jayden Sittler kicked out all 23 shots he faced and Giorgio Estephan had a goal and two assists as the Hurricanes blanked Medicine Hat.

Tyler Wong, Andrew Nielsen and Justin Gutierrez all had a goal and an assist for Lethbridge (4-2-0). Ryley Lindgren and Egor Babenko and Carter Folk also scored while Brayden Burke added four assists.

Evan Johnson started in net for the Tigers (2-3-1), but was pulled after turning away 10-of-13 shots in 21:37. Nick Schneider took over and stopped 11-of-15 shots in 38:33.

OIL KINGS 4 WARRIORS 3 (SO)

MOOSE JAW, Sask. — Lane Bauer struck twice in regulation and Brett Pollock scored the winner in a shootout as Edmonton slipped past the Warriors.

Kole Gable tied the game at three with a goal in the third period for the Oil Kings (2-2-1).

Jayden Halbgewachs, Brayden Point and Nikita Popugaev chipped in for Moose Jaw (3-0-2).

SASKATOON — Landon Bow stopped all 30 shots he faced as Swift Current shut out the Blades.

Jordan Thomson, Cavin Leth, Glenn Gawdin, Jon Martin and Scott Feser found the back of the net for the Broncos (2-2-1).

Jake Morrissey turned aside 35 shots for Saskatoon (2-1-3).

Swift Current's Jake DeBrusk was ejected at 8:48 of the first period after receiving a major penalty for checking to the head.

WINTERHAWKS 5 CHIEFS 0

PORTLAND, Ore. — Adin Hill made 23 saves while Alex Schoenborn and Rodrigo Abols had a goal and two assists each as the Winterhawks picked up their first win of the season by blanking Spokane.

Paul Bittner, Cody Glass and Keegan Iverson also scored for Portland (1-3-0).

Tyson Verheist turned away 32 shots for the Chiefs (3-3-0)

PRINCE GEORGE, B.C. — Beau McCue had a goal and an assist as Tri-City toppled the Cougars.

Kyle Olson, Taylor Vickerman, Brandon Carlo and Parker Bowles supplied the rest of the Americans (3-1-1) offence.

Jansen Harkins and Jesse Gabrielle scored for Prince George (1-3-0).

KELOWNA, B.C. — Coleman Vollrath kicked out all 26 shots he faced as Victoria shutout the Rockets.

Ryan Peckford, Matthew Phillips and Vladimir Bobylev all scored in the third period for the Royals (6-1-0).

Jackson Whistle turned aside 23 shots for Kelowna (5-3-0).
