The NHL Players' Association announced Friday that it and the NHL have reached a settlement agreement regarding Mike Richards' contract with the Los Angeles Kings.

"The settlement amicably resolves the grievance filed by the NHLPA on August 10, 2015 in response to the Los Angeles Kings’ termination of Richards’ contract. Richards is an Unrestricted Free Agent," the NHLPA said in a statement.

Richards, 30, faces a charge of possession of a controlled substance while entering Canada. His court case reportedly has been continued to Dec. 8.

The Kings terminated Richards' contract June 29, for a "material breach of the requirements of his contract."

"The terms are agreeable to all parties," the Kings said in a statement. "We will not be commenting further on the terms."
