Roundup: Senators, O'Connor defeat Canadiens

Kyle Turris had four assists, and Mark Stone had a goal and two assists in the Ottawa Senators' 5-4 win against the Montreal Canadiens at Canadian Tire Centre on Saturday.

Matthew O'Connor, with the Senators because Andrew Hammond (groin) is injured, made 33 saves.

Mike Hoffman had a goal and an assist for the Senators, who finished the preseason 3-3-2. Chris Neil, Chris Wideman and Codi Ceci also scored.

Senators forward Clarke MacArthur was injured in the second period and held out of the rest of the game for precautionary reasons.

Dale Weise, Alex Galchenyuk, Brendan Gallagher and Max Pacioretty scored for Montreal. Nathan Beaulieu had three assists.

The Canadiens finished the preseason 2-3-2. They open the regular season at the Toronto Maple Leafs on Oct. 7.

Ottawa opens the regular season at the Buffalo Sabres on Oct. 8.

Dustin Tokarski allowed five goals on 15 shots for the Canadiens.

Red Wings 2, Maple Leafs 1: Andreas Athanasiou and Anthony Mantha each had a goal and an assist for the Detroit Red Wings against the Toronto Maple Leafs at Air Canada Centre.

Athanasiou and Mantha scored less than six minutes apart in the second period for Detroit, which finished the preseason 6-0-2.

Brad Boyes, who signed this week after attending camp on a pro tryout, scored 22 seconds into the third period for Toronto (3-5-0).

Petr Mrazek made 28 saves for the Red Wings; Jonathan Bernier made 13 for the Maple Leafs.

The teams did not score during a 3-on-3 overtime.

Detroit defeated Toronto 4-2 on Friday, and they play at Joe Louis Arena on Oct. 9 in the Red Wings' regular-season opener.

The Maple Leafs start the season Oct. 7 at home against the Canadiens.

Lightning 3, Panthers 2: Jonathan Drouin scored with 2:02 remaining to cap a third-period comeback that gave the Tampa Bay Lightning a win against the Florida Panthers at BB&T Center in the final preseason game for each team.

Tampa Bay forward Tyler Johnson played 7:39 before leaving the game in the second period with an injury and did not return. The Lightning did not have an update afterward. Forward Alex Killorn also was injured; he played 12:30.

Tampa Bay trailed 2-0 before Ondrej Palat scored with 5:26 remaining in the third period. Brian Boyle’s goal 1:38 later tied the score before Drouin beat Roberto Luongo for the game-winner. Ben Bishop made 32 saves for the Lightning (3-3-1).

The Panthers (3-3-0) got first-period goals from Derek MacKenzie and Nick Bjugstad. Luongo made 27 saves.

Each team begins its regular season at home against the Philadelphia Flyers, the Lightning on Oct. 8 and the Panthers on Oct. 10.

Blackhawks 4, Stars 0: Marian Hossa scored twice to lead the Chicago Blackhawks to a victory against the Dallas Stars at United Center in the final preseason game for each team.

Hossa opened the scoring with a power-play goal at 12:46 of the second period. Patrick Kane knocked home a rebound at 1:42 of the third period to make it 2-0. Hossa scored again with 3:21 remaining and Andrew Shaw capped the scoring with 1:01 left.

Rookie Artemi Panarin had the primary assist on the first two goals for Chicago, which finished the preseason 4-2-0. Corey Crawford made 13 saves before being replaced by Scott Darling midway through the second period. Darling made 15 saves.

Antti Niemi played the first two periods for the Stars and made 17 saves on 18 shots. Kari Lehtonen played the third period and made eight saves on 11 shots. Dallas finished the preseason 1-6-0.

The Blackhawks open the regular season against the New York Rangers at home on Oct. 7 (8 p.m. ET; NBCSN). Dallas opens against the Pittsburgh Penguins at American Airlines Center on Oct. 8.

Ducks 5, Sharks 1: Corey Perry and Cam Fowler scored power-play goals in the second period and the Anaheim Ducks defeated the San Jose Sharks at Honda Center in the final preseason game for each team.

Perry tied the game 1-1 when he scored on a deflection 9:35 into the second period, and Fowler put the Ducks ahead to stay at 15:20. Hampus Lindholm, Josh Manson and Kevin Bieksa scored in the third period for the Ducks (5-0-1), who outshot San Jose 39-18. Frederik Andersen made 17 saves.

Dylan Demelo scored a power-play goal 7:21 into the second period and Alex Stalock made 34 saves for San Jose (4-2-1).

Sharks forward Raffi Torres was given a match penalty at 12:45 of the first period for a hit to the head of Anaheim forward Jakob Silfverberg, who did not return. The Ducks said he was under evaluation.

The Sharks open their regular season on the road against the Los Angeles Kings on Oct. 7. The Ducks play their opener at San Jose on Oct. 10.

Kings 4, Avalanche 0: First-period goals by Dustin Brown and Kyle Clifford led the Los Angeles Kings to a victory against the Colorado Avalanche in the annual Frozen Fury preseason game at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.

Brown scored at 8:56 of the opening period, converting a passout by Dwight King. Clifford stuffed a shot past Avalanche goalie Reto Berra at 15:00 for a 2-0 lead.

Trevor Lewis scored 5:17 into the second period and Marian Gaborik had a third-period goal for the Kings (4-1-1), who outshot the Avalanche 28-6 through two periods.

Jonathan Quick made 14 saves for Los Angeles, which opens its regular season at home against the San Jose Sharks on Oct. 7 (10:30 p.m. ET, NBCSN).

Berra made 28 saves for Colorado, which finished the preseason 1-4-1. The Avalanche begin the regular season against the Minnesota Wild at Pepsi Center on Oct. 8 (9 p.m. ET, NBCSN).

Canucks 3, Oilers 2 (OT): Daniel Sedin scored 29 seconds into overtime to lift the Vancouver Canucks to a win against the Edmonton Oilers at Rogers Arena in the preseason finale for each team.

Bo Horvat opened the scoring 3:57 into the game and Jannik Hansen tied it for Vancouver at 18:04 of the third period after Edmonton had taken a 2-1 lead.

Ryan Miller allowed two goals on 27 shots for the Canucks, who were 4-3-1 in the preseason. Vancouver opens its regular season on Oct. 7 at the Calgary Flames.

Benoit Pouliot and Ryan Nugent-Hopkins scored in the third period and Cam Talbot made 24 saves for the Oilers, who finished the preseason 6-1-1. Edmonton will play its first regular-season game at the St. Louis Blues on Oct. 8.

Blue Jackets 7, Predators 1: The line of Nick Foligno, Ryan Johansen and Brandon Saad combined for 11 points in the Columbus Blue Jackets' win against the Nashville Predators at Nationwide Arena.

Foligno had two goals and two assists, Saad had two goals and one assist, and Johansen had four assists for Columbus, which finished the preseason 5-2-1.

Foligno, Rene Bourque and Jared Boll gave the Blue Jackets a 3-0 first-period lead.

Cody Hodgson scored for Nashville to make it 3-1 at 1:52 of the second period.

Saad scored two in a row before Foligno and Brandon Dubinsky pushed the lead to 7-1.

Sergei Bobrovsky made 25 saves for Columbus, which opens the regular season Oct. 9 at home against the New York Rangers.

Pekka Rinne allowed seven goals on 33 shots for Nashville (3-2-1), which opens the regular season Oct. 8 at home against the Carolina Hurricanes.

Jets 3, Flames 2: Blake Wheeler and Ben Chiarot scored in the second period and Ondrej Pavelec made 29 saves in the Winnipeg Jets' win against the Calgary Flames at Scotiabank Saddledome in the preseason finale for each team.

Winnipeg, which was 3-2-2 in the preseason, opens its regular season on Oct. 8 at the Boston Bruins.

Lance Bouma scored 3:45 into the third period and Karri Ramo made 21 saves for the Flames, who were 4-4-0 in the preseason. Calgary will open against the Vancouver Canucks at home on Oct. 7.

Drew Stafford scored an empty-net goal for the Jets at 18:54 of the third. David Jones got the Flames back within one at 19:44.

Flames forward Jiri Hudler did not play in the third period because of a lower-body injury.
