QMJHL Roundup: Phoenix offence explodes in 9-6 win over Olympiques

GATINEAU, Que. - Jan Dufek scored three times while Jeremy Roy and Daniel Audette had four-point outings as the Sherbrooke Phoenix defeated the host Gatineau Olympiques 9-6 on Sunday in Quebec Major Junior Hockey League action.

Roy and Audette each had a goal and three assists for the Phoenix (2-3-1) while Vincent Deslauriers had two goals and a helper. Nicolas Poulin added a goal and two assists and Guillaume Gauthier produced a goal and a helper to round out the offence.

Alain Alexandre struck twice for the Olympiques (5-1-0), who also got goals from Alex Breton, Alexandre Carrier, Yan Pavel Laplante and Jeffrey Durocher.

Sherbrooke's Evan Fitzpatrick only had to make 15 saves for the win. Mathieu Bellemare started in net for Gatineau, but was yanked after allowing four goals on 18 shots in 30:11 of action. Bo Taylor stopped 16-of-20 shots in relief.

The Phoenix went 2 for 5 on the power play while the Olympiques failed to score on three chances with the man advantage.

SCREAMING EAGLES 3 MOOSEHEADS 2 (OT)

HALIFAX — Loik Leveille scored the winner at 4:25 of the extra period and Alexandre Belanger kicked out 39 shots as Cape Breton edged the Mooseheads.

Maxim Lazarev and Clark Bishop also scored for the Screaming Eagles (3-2-1).

Maxime Fortier and Jean-Sebastien Taillefer found the back of the net for Halifax (1-3-2), which got a 31-save outing from Kevin Resop.

WILDCATS 6 ISLANDERS 3

CHARLOTTETOWN — Cameron Askew had two goals and an assist and Conor Garland scored once and set up three more as Moncton doubled up the Islanders.

Manuel Wiederer added a goal and two helpers for the Wildcats (5-1-0) while Eric Leger and Kelly Klima rounded out the scoring. Zachary Fortin made 28 saves for the win.

Bradley Kennedy, Chris Chaddock and Alexandre Goulet scored for Charlottetown (4-2-0). Matthew Welsh allowed five goals on 16 shots before giving way to Daryl MacCallum, who stopped 21-of-22 shots in 29:11 of relief.

TITAN 4 SEA DOGS 3

BATHURST, N.B. — Nicholas Blanchard broke a 3-3 deadlock late in the third period as the Titan slipped past Saint John.

Mark Simpson, Jake Smith and Daniil Miromanov also scored for Acadie-Bathurst (2-3-1) and Reilly Pickard made 25 saves for the victory.

Adam Marsh, Samuel Dove-McFalls and Mathieu Joseph supplied the offence for the Sea Dogs (3-3-0) while Marc-Antoine Turcotte turned away 42 shots in a losing cause.

SHAWINIGAN, Que. — Louis-Filip Cote and Francis Perron each had a pair of goals as Rouyn-Noranda hammered the Cataractes.

Alexandre Sills and Peter Abbandonato also scored for the Huskies (5-1-1), who got a 23-save performance from Chase Marchand.

Mikhail Denisov turned aside 39-of-45 shots for Shawinigan (5-1-0). James Phelan scored the lone goal for his club.

DRAKKAR 3 REMPARTS 2

QUEBEC CITY — Vaclav Karabacek scored the winner at 16:53 of the third as Baie-Comeau completed the come-from-behind win over the Remparts.

Samuel Thibault and Nicolas Meloche also scored for the Drakkar (1-5-0), who trailed 2-0 after 40 minutes of action. Evgeny Kiselev made 23 saves for the win.

Lucas Thierus and Ross MacDougall put Quebec (2-3-1) ahead. Callum Booth stopped 21 shots in defeat.

TIGRES 4 SAGUENEENS 1

CHICOUTIMI, Que. — Marc Beckstead had a hat trick as Victoriaville toppled the Sagueneens.

Samuel Blais had a goal and two assists for the Tigres (2-4-0) as Olivier Tremblay turned aside 33 shots for the win.

Dmitry Zhukenov opened the scoring for Chicoutimi (0-5-1), which is the only club in the league still searching for its first win of the season. Julio Billia made 30 saves in defeat.
