Defenseman Sheldon Souray acknowledged the end of his NHL career on Twitter on Tuesday.

Souray, who had not played since the 2012-13 season with the Anaheim Ducks, tweeted, "I'm going to enjoy my last day today on an @NHL roster!!" in response to a mention of the 21st anniversary of his being drafted.

The 38-year-old did not play the past two seasons because of a wrist injury. In 13 seasons with five teams, he had 109 goals and 300 points in 758 regular-season games.

Selected by the New Jersey Devils in the third round (No. 71) in the 1994 NHL Draft, he made his NHL debut on Oct. 17, 1997.

A wrist injury in November 2001 limited him to 34 games for the Montreal Canadiens, and he did not play in 2002-03. After returning from the injury, he scored 15, 12 and 26 goals the following three seasons and had an NHL career-high 64 points (26 goals, 38 assists) in 2006-07.

Souray signed with the Edmonton Oilers in July 2007 but missed most of the following season because of a shoulder injury. After the Oilers loaned him to the Hershey Bears in the American Hockey League for 40 games in 2010-11, Souray played 64 games with the Dallas Stars in 2011-12 and then 44 with the Ducks the following season.

His three-year contract with the Ducks expired Tuesday.
