Palmieri grew up in Montvale, N.J. He had 29 points (14 goals) in 57 games this season after setting an NHL career high of 31 points in 2013-14, and then had one goal and three assists in 16 games in the Stanley Cup Playoffs.

The Devils selected center Pavel Zacha with the No. 6 pick at BB&T Center on Friday. The Ducks took defenseman Jacob Larsson at No. 27; they did not have a second-round pick before making the trade.
