Predators' Weber 'getting better' after surgery: report

Nashville Predators captain Shea Weber is recovering as scheduled after having surgery on a dislocated kneecap six weeks ago.

"Just taking it day by day and following the protocol and getting better each day," Weber told USA Today this week.

Weber missed the final four games of the Western Conference First Round against the Chicago Blackhawks after injuring his knee while battling for a puck along the end boards with Blackhawks forward Brandon Saad in a 6-2 win in Game 2 on April 17. The Predators lost the series 4-2.

Weber was given a timeline of 4-6 weeks for his recovery after surgery.

"Everything's moving along as it should be," Weber said. "I've been in contact obviously with the guys in Nashville and the surgeon, and everything seems to be on schedule."

Weber said he expects to be cleared soon and doesn't think his knee will be a problem when the Predators start training camp in September.

"Just going to obviously try to find out from the doctor and see what he thinks, and if it's ready to go, then we'll go when he says it is," Weber said. "I think there's no question that I should be ready for training camp."

In 78 games during the regular season, Weber had 15 goals and 45 points with a plus-15 rating averaging 26:22 of ice time per game, which ranked sixth in the NHL.
