NEW YORK -- New York Rangers forward Mats Zuccarello did not return to Game 5 of the Eastern Conference First Round series against the Pittsburgh Penguins at Madison Square Garden on Friday after he sustained an apparent upper-body injury late in the first period.

Zuccarello was jockeying for position in front of Pittsburgh goaltender Marc-Andre Fleury when he was hit on the left side of his helmet on a shot by New York defenseman Ryan McDonagh.

Zuccarello skated back to the New York bench and was immediately attended to by trainers. He left for the Rangers locker room for further observation with less than four minutes left in the first.

The Rangers, who led 1-0 at the time of Zuccarello's injury, won 2-1 in overtime to advance to the second round.

Zuccarello had two assists and a plus-1 rating in the series.
