OHL Roundup: Otters one game away from series sweep beating Knights in Game 3

LONDON, Ont. - Devin Williams made 26 saves and Connor McDavid added to his league-leading playoff point total with three assists as the Erie Otters downed the host London Knights 4-1 on Sunday in Ontario Hockey League playoff action.

McDavid now has 10 goals and 21 points in eight post-season games for the Otters, who lead the best-of-seven second-round series 3-0.

Alex DeBrincat, Jake Marchment, Nick Betz and Travis Dermott scored for Erie, which led 4-0 before the Knights finally hit the scoreboard midway through the third period.

London's Joel Wigle broke up Williams' shutout bid.

Michael Giugovav turned away 37-of-41 shots for the Knights.

The Otters will try and sweep the series and advance to the Western Conference final on Tuesday when London hosts Game 4.

BATTALION 3 COLTS 2

BARRIE, Ont. — Jake Smith made 24 saves and Nick Paul scored the eventual winner while shorthanded early in the third period as North bay evened its second-round series with the Colts at a game apiece.

Ray Huether and Kyle Wood also scored for the Battalion as Paul tacked on an assist for a two-point outing.

Brendan Lemieux and Roy Radke supplied the offence for Barrie, which got a 31-save performance from Mackenzie Blackwood.

The series shifts to North Bay for Game 3 on Tuesday.

GENERALS 6 ICEDOGS 1

OSHAWA, Ont. — Michael Dal Colle scored once and set up two more and Ken Appleby made 26 saves as the Generals toppled Niagara to go up 2-0 in their second-round matchup.

Michael McCarron and Tobias Lindberg had a goal and an assist each for Oshawa while Matt Mistele, Hunter Smith and Stephen Desrochers added a goal apiece.

Brendan Perlini found the back of the net for the IceDogs. Brandon Hope kicked out 37-of-43 shots in a losing cause.

Generals centre Aidan Wallace was assessed a match penalty for slew footing at 13:28 of the third period.

Niagara will host Game 3 on Tuesday.

GREYHOUNDS 6 STORM 1

GUELPH, Ont. — Nick Ritchie and Justin Bailey each had a goal and two helpers as Sault Ste. Marie took Game 3 over the Storm — moving the Greyhounds one game away from a second-round sweep.

Keigan Goetz, Blake Speers, Darnell Nurse and Jared McCann also scored for Sault Ste Marie. Brandon Halverson made 26 saves to improve to 7-0-0 in the post-season.

Tyler Bertuzzi was the lone goal scorer for Guelph. Justin Nichols allowed six goals on 31 shots in 40 minutes of action. Bradley Van Schubert came in for the third period and stopped all nine shots his way.

The Storm will try and avoid elimination when they host Game 4 on Tuesday.
