OHL Roundup: McDavid, Otters beat Knights 5-2 to open up second-round series

ERIE, Pa. - Connor McDavid scored twice and set up two more as the Erie Otters toppled the London Knights 5-2 on Thursday to take Game 1 of their Ontario Hockey League second-round playoff series.

Dylan Strome, Nicholas Baptiste and Alex DeBrincat also found the back of the net for the Otters. Remi Elie and Jake Marchment each added two assists.

Mitchell Marner and Max Domi supplied the offence for the Knights, who were outshot 46-18.

Erie's Devin Williams made 16 saves for the win as Tyler Parsons turned away 41-of-45 shots for London.

Otters defenceman Kurtis MacDermid was assessed a major and game misconduct at 13:56 of the second period for checking to the head.

Erie went 1 for 5 on the power play, and scored twice shorthanded, while the Knights failed to score on three chances with the man advantage.

Game 2 goes Friday in Erie.

GREYHOUNDS 9 STORM 3

SAULT STE. MARIE, Ont. — Nick Ritchie scored three times and added an assist and Jean Dupuy chipped in with a pair of goals as the Greyhounds hammered Guelph to go up 2-0 in their second-round playoff matchup.

Justin Bailey had a goal and two helpers for Sault Ste. Marie while Zachary Senyshyn, Sergey Tolchinsky and Gustav Bouramman scored the others.

Chris Marchese struck twice for the Storm, who also got a goal from Tyler Bertuzzi.

Brandon Halverson stopped 18-of-21 shots for the Greyhounds before giving way to Joseph Raaymakers, who turned aside all eight shots he faced in a period of action. Guelph's Justin Nichols kicked out 8-of-10 shots before Bradley Van Schubert took over the net. Van Schubert allowed seven goals on 42 shots in 50:09 of ice time.

Storm forward Luke Burghardt was handed a game misconduct at 8:32 of the second period for boarding.

Guelph hosts Game 3 on Sunday.
