Providence, Nebraska-Omaha win, make Frozen Four

Tom Parisi scored a tie-breaking power-play goal with 5:01 left and Providence College defeated Denver 4-1 on Sunday to win the NCAA East Regional final and advance to the Frozen Four.

Providence (23-13-3), of Hockey East, will face Nebraska-Omaha, which defeated Rochester Institute of Technology 4-0 in the Midwest Regional final later Sunday, on April 9 at TD Garden in Boston. North Dakota will play Boston University in the other semifinal.

The Friars, playing before a home crowd in Providence, opened the scoring on Noel Acciari's power-play goal with 5:38 left in the second period. Acciari stuffed a backhander past Tanner Jaillet off a pass from Shane Luke.

Denver (24-14-2), of the NCHC, tied it at 7:52 of the third on Joey LaLeggia's power-play goal. LaLeggia's shot hit the glass and the puck ricocheted into the net off the back of goalie Jon Gillies.

After Parisi's goal put Providence ahead, Brandon Tanev and Kevin Rooney scored empty-net goals for the Friars.

Nebraska-Omaha 4, Rochester Institute of Technology 0

Ryan Massa made 40 saves and Nebraska-Omaha scored four times in the third period to win the Midwest Regional final and advance to the Frozen Four for the first time.

Jake Randolph scored the game's first goal 1:01 into the third period for UNO (20-12-6) of the NCHC. Austin Ortega, Justin Parizek and David Pope (empty net) scored in the final 4 1/2 minutes.
