OHL Roundup: McDavid scores for Otters in Game 2 victory over Sting

ERIE, Pa. - Connor McDavid has put the Erie Otters back on track.

McDavid scored once and added an assist as the Otters evened their first-round series at a game apiece with a 3-1 victory over the Sarnia Sting in Ontario Hockey League playoff action on Friday night.

The potential first-overall selection in this year's NHL Draft opened the scoring in the second period for Erie with his first of the post-season. Remi Elie and Nicholas Baptiste, on the power play, also had goals in the second. Devin Williams turned aside 24 shots in net.

Nikita Korostelev responded with a goal in the third for the Sting. Taylor Dupuis made 26 saves in the loss.

Erie scored once on six power-play opportunities while Sarnia went 0 for 4.

Game 3 goes Sunday in Sarnia.

BATTALION 8 FRONTENACS 0

NORTH BAY, Ont. — Nick Paul had a three-point night — scoring twice in the second period — while Jake Smith stopped all 18 shots he faced as the Battalion took Game 1 against Kingston.

Ryan Kujawinski also struck twice for North Bay while Riley Bruce, Mike Amadio, Zach Bratina and Brenden Miller rounded out the attack. The Battalion outshot their opponent 42-18.

Lucas Peressini turned away 25-of-31 shots in 36:43 before being lifted. Jeremy Helvig replaced him and made nine saves.

Game 2 goes Sunday in North Bay.

GREYHOUNDS 5 SPIRIT 1

SAULT STE. MARIE, Ont. — Bryan Moore and Jared McCann each had a goal and an assist as the Greyhounds topped Saginaw in Game 1.

Michael Bunting, on the power play, Zachary Senyshyn and Justin Bailey also chipped in for Sault Ste. Marie.

Connor Brown had the lone goal for the Spirit on the power play.

Game 2 goes Saturday in Sault Ste. Marie.

ATTACK 6 STORM 1

GUELPH, Ont. — Damir Sharipzyanov had a goal and two assists as Owen Sound dominated the Storm in Game 1.

Connor Walters, Daniel Milne, Jeffrey Gilligan, Erik Bradford and Justin Brack supplied the rest of the offence for the Attack.

Jason Dickinson scored in the second period for Guelph, which hosts Game 2 on Sunday.

KNIGHTS 3 RANGERS 1

LONDON, Ont. — Mitchell Marner struck twice — including once on the power play — as the Knights took Game 1 over Kitchener.

Matt Rupert added a goal and two assists for London, which hosts Game 2 on Sunday.

Darby Llewellyn replied with a goal in the third period for the Rangers.

OSHAWA, Ont. — Tobias Lindberg had a hat trick and added an assist as the Generals routed Peterborough in Game 1 of their first-round playoff series.

Joe Manchurek, Hunter Smith, Michael McCarron, Mitchell Vande Sompel also scored for Oshawa. Michael Dal Colle and Cole Cassels added three assists apiece.

Matt McCartney and Josh Maguire found the back of the net for the Petes.

Game 2 goes Sunday in Oshawa.
