ANAHEIM DEFEATS MINNESOTA, REACHES TOP OF LEAGUE STANDINGS

Jakob Silfverberg (1-1—2) scored the game-winner at 13:45 of the second period to power the Anaheim Ducks to a 2-1 victory against the Minnesota Wild. The Ducks, who have won six of their past eight road games (6-2-0), improved to 43-20-7 (93 points) this season and passed five idle clubs to take sole possession of first in the League standings.

* According to the Elias Sports Bureau, Anaheim's 43 wins are the second-most victories through 70 games in franchise history; the franchise-best was a record of 45-18-7 through 70 games during the 2013-14 season.

* The Ducks have a record of 21-10-4 (46 points) through 35 road games this season. Elias also said that Anaheim's 46 standings points through 35 road games are the most in franchise history, while the 21 wins are tied for the franchise record of victories through 35 road games; the team had a record of 21-11-3 through 35 road games during the 2013-14 season.

* Silfverberg's goal was his 11th of the season and also stood as his first game-winning goal of the season. Silfverberg also added his 22nd assist to record his sixth multi-point game of the season.

* In his first career appearance versus the Wild, John Gibson made 32 saves to improve to 10-6-0 this season with a 2.54 goals-against average and a .919 save percentage. Gibson has won four of his past five decisions (4-1-0).

* Ryan Kesler (0-2—2) had his fourth multi-assist performance of the season.

* Ryan Getzlaf skated in the 700th game of his NHL career and became the third player in franchise history to appear in 700 games with the Ducks; Teemu Selanne skated in 966 games, and current teammate Corey Perry has skated in 710 games.

* Anaheim swept its season series against Minnesota and has won eight of its past last games against the Wild. The Ducks have also won a franchise-best six consecutive games at Xcel Energy Center, all of which were one-goal victories.

CALGARY DEFEATS TORONTO, TAKES SECOND IN PACIFIC DIVISION STANDINGS

The Calgary Flames scored four first period goals – including two shorthanded goals within a span of 2:58 – en route to their 6-3 victory against the Toronto Maple Leafs. The Flames have earned points in six consecutive games (5-0-1) and improved to 38-25-5 (81 points) overall this season. Calgary leapfrogged the idle Vancouver Canucks to take sole possession of second in the Pacific Division standings.

* According to the Elias Sports Bureau, the last time the Flames scored two shorthanded goals in a period was March 21, 2013 when Mark Giordano and Blake Comeau scored two shorthanded goals in the first period of a game versus the Nashville Predators. Elias also said that the last time the Flames scored two shorthanded goals within a span of three minutes was Oct. 17, 1997 in a game versus the Colorado Avalanche; German Titov and Derek Morris each scored shorthanded goals 38 seconds apart early in the second period.

* Sean Monahan (2-1—3) scored twice – one shorthanded goal and one at even-strength– and added his 24th assist to record the first three-point game of his career and extend his point streak to a career-high six games (6-3—9). The shorthanded goal was also the first career shorthanded goal, and the team-leading seventh game-winning goal of the season for Monahan.

* Jiri Hudler (1-2—3) scored on a power-play, his 25th goal this season, and added two assists to record his second three-point performance of the season and extend his point streak to six games (6-6—12), which matches a season-high. The goal was also the sixth power-play goal of the season for Hudler, which tied his career-high. Hudler now has a team-leading 60 points this season (25-35—60), which established a new career-high.

* Johnny Gaudreau (1-2—3) opened the scoring with his 19th goal and added two assists to record his third three-point game of the season, and extend his career-high point streak to six games (4-5—9). Gaudreau is tied for the League-lead in points among rookies this season with 53 (19-34—53).

* Jonas Hiller made 25 saves to improve to 21-17-4 this season with a 2.43 goals-against average and a .915 save percentage. Hiller has earned points in five of his last six decisions (3-1-2).

* T.J. Brodie (0-2—2) had his third multi-assist performance of the season.

* Mikael Backlund (1-0—1) scored his ninth goal of the season and extended his career-high point streak to seven games (3-4—7). The goal was also the second shorthanded of the season for Backlund.

HAMMOND, SENATORS CONTINUE STRONG PLAY IN WIN OVER ISLANDERS

Andrew Hammond stopped all but one of 35 shots he faced to backstop the Ottawa Senators to a 2-1 victory against the New York Islanders. The Senators, who have earned points in 11 of their last 12 games (10-1-1), improved to 32-24-11 (75 points) overall this season. Ottawa moved within five points of the idle Boston Bruins, who occupy the second wild card spot into the Stanley Cup Playoffs from the Eastern Conference with a record of 35-22-10 (80 points).

* In the 10th start of his career, Hammond made 34 saves to improve to 9-0-1 this season with a 1.44 goals-against average and a .954 save percentage. According to the Elias Sports Bureau, Hammond is just the fifth goaltender since 1972 to earn a point in each of his first 10 career starts; he joined Semyon Varlamov (9-0-1 with the Washington Capitals during the 2008-09 and 2009-10 seasons); Patrick Lalime (10-0-0 with the Pittsburgh Penguins during the 1996-97 season); Bob Froese (9-0-1 with the Philadelphia Flyers during the 1982-83 season); and Ross Brooks (7-0-3 with the Boston Bruins during the 1972-73 season).

* Elias also said that Hammond is just third goaltender in NHL history – and the first since 1938 – to allow two goals or fewer in each of his first 10 career starts. The others are Boston's Frank Brimsek (12 starts, Nov. 3 – Dec. 27, 1938) and Detroit's Clarence Dolson (10 starts, Nov. 15 – Dec. 13, 1928).

* Kyle Turris (1-0—1) scored his 17th goal of the season, which also stood as his fourth game-winning goal of the season.

FIDDLER LEADS STARS TO THIRD STRAIGHT VICTORY IN WIN OVER CAPITALS

Vernon Fiddler (1-1—2) recorded his third multi-point game of the season to lead the Dallas Stars to their third consecutive victory via a 4-2 win against the Washington Capitals. The Stars, who have also won five of their past six games (5-1-0), improved to 32-27-10 (74 points) overall this season and moved within five points of the idle Los Angeles Kings, who occupy the second wild card spot into the Stanley Cup Playoffs from the Western Conference with a record of 33-21-13 (79 points).

* Fiddler scored his 12th goal on a power-play and added his 14th assist. The goal was also the third power-play goal of the season for Fiddler, which matches his career-high.

* Kari Lehtonen made 18 saves to improve to 29-13-10 this season with a 2.92 goals-against average and a .905 save percentage. Lehtonen has earned wins in his past four decisions (4-0-0), and has won six consecutive games versus the Capitals.

* Alex Hemsky (0-2—2) had his fourth multi-assist game of the season.

* Tyler Seguin (1-0—1) scored his team-leading 32nd goal of the season. The goal was also his team-leading 10th on the power-play of the season, and his team-leading fifth game-winning goal of the season.

* Jamie Benn (0-1—1) had his team-leading 41st assist of the season, and extended his point streak versus Washington to five games (2-5—7).

* The Stars swept their season series against the Capitals and have won seven straight games versus Washington. Dallas has also won four consecutive games at Verizon Center and have earned points in nine of their last 11 games in Washington (8-2-1).

* Dallas has also won six consecutive games versus Metropolitan Division opponents.

ROOKIES LEAD COLUMBUS OVER EDMONTON

Rookie Alexander Wennberg (0-2—2) scored the shootout-winner in addition to his two assists in regulation and rookie Marko Dano (1-1—2) recorded his third multi-point game of the season to lead the Columbus Blue Jackets to a 5-4 win against the Edmonton Oilers. The Blue Jackets have won three consecutive games.

* Wennberg's performance was his second multi-assist game of the season. A rookie, Wennberg's shootout goal was the first of his career, and consequently stood as the first game-deciding goal of his career.

* Dano opened the scoring just 43 seconds into the game with his fifth goal, and later added his fifth assist of the season.

* Sergei Bobrovsky made 31 saves through 65 minutes and additionally stopped all five shooters in the shootout to improve to 20-16-2 this season with a 2.81 goals-against average and a .914 save percentage. Bobrovsky has earned wins in his past four decisions (4-0-0) and improved to 6-1 in shootouts this season, which is tied for the League-lead in shootout wins. Bobrovsky has stopped 30 of 34 shooters for a .882 shootout save percentage.

* Nick Foligno (0-2—2) had his fifth multi-assist performance of the season.

* Cam Atkinson (1-0—1) scored his 15th goal of the season on a power-play with 2.7 seconds left in the first period and extended his point streak to three games (2-1—3). The goal was also Atkinson's career-high fifth power-play goal of the season, and the 100th point of his NHL career (52-48—100).

* Columbus improved to 8-2-0 in their past 10 home games versus Edmonton.

Ottawa defenseman Patrick Wiercioch (0-1—1) extended his point streak to a season-high three games (0-3—3), which also matches his career-high. ... Dallas defenseman Patrik Nemeth (0-1—1) had the first point of his NHL career. ... Washington forward Evgeny Kuznetsov (1-1—2) had his fourth multi-point performance of the season. ... Washington forward Curtis Glencross (1-0—1) has five points in five games (3-2—5) since making his team debut on March 3. ... Washington forward Alex Ovechkin (0-1—1) extended his point streak to five games (6-3—9) and, with 71 points this season, moved within one point of the Islanders' John Tavares for the League-lead. Ovechkin's assist was also the 418th of his career and allowed him to tie Michael Pivonka and Nicklas Backstrom for first on the franchise's all-time assists list. ... Columbus forward Artem Anisimov (1-0—1) extended his point streak to a season-high three games (1-3—4). ... Columbus forward Scott Hartnell (1-0—1) has scored in three straight games (4-0—4), which matches a season-high. ... Edmonton forward Jordan Eberle (1-1—2) had his 12th multi-point game of the season and extended his point streak to four games (3-5—8), which matches a season-high. ... Edmonton forward Ryan Nugent-Hopkins (0-2—2) had his fourth multi-assist performance of the season. ...
