Revolving goalie door: Luongo and Montoya hurt, so Panthers call up 2 goalies from the minors

SUNRISE, Fla. - The Florida Panthers will be without injured goalies Roberto Luongo and Al Montoya for at least Thursday night's game against Dallas, and possibly longer.

To replace them, the Panthers recalled Dan Ellis from San Antonio of the AHL and Sam Brittain from Cincinnati of the ECHL.

Ellis will start Thursday against the Stars, his former team. Brittain has never played in an NHL game.

Luongo and Montoya were both hurt during Tuesday's loss to Toronto, leading to a most unusual set of circumstances. The Panthers considered putting goaltender coach Robb Tallas, whose last NHL appearance was 14 years ago, into the game. Forward Derek MacKenzie was also an option, as was playing without a goalie.

Florida is two points behind Boston for the No. 8 spot in the Eastern Conference.
