OHL Roundup: Milano with four points as Whalers hand Sting fifth straight loss

PLYMOUTH, Mich. - Sonny Milano scored twice and set up two more as the Plymouth Whalers doubled up the visiting Sarnia Sting 6-3 on Thursday in Ontario Hockey League action.

Victor Crus Rydberg had a goal and an assist for the Whalers (21-32-4) while Mitch Jones, Connor Sills and Mathew Campagna added the others.

Jakob Chychrun scored once and assisted on another for the Sting (25-27-7), who are on a five-game skid, and Hayden Hodgson and Nikita Korostelev had a goal apiece.

Plymouth's Alex Nedeljkovic made 39 saves for the win as Justin Fazio kicked out 29-of-35 shots for Sarnia.

Sting forward Pavel Zacha, who chipped in with two assists, was assessed a major and game misconduct for checking from behind at 10:37 of the third period.

The Whalers went 2 for 7 on the power play while Sarnia converted once on six chances with the man advantage.

ICEDOGS 4 STEELHEADS 2

ST. CATHARINES, Ont. — Brendan Perlini and Carter Verhaeghe each had a goal and an assist as Niagara handed Mississauga its seventh loss in a row.

Billy Jenkins and Anthony DiFruscia also scored for the IceDogs (29-25-4), who got a 28-save outing from Brandon Hope.

Sean Day and Michael McLeod found the back of the net for the Steelheads (22-34-3) while Jacob Brennan stopped 29-of-33 shots in a losing cause.

PETES 4 WOLVES 3

PETERBOROUGH, Ont. — Greg Betzold's power-play goal at 11:17 of the third period stood up as the winner as the Petes slipped past Sudbury.

Adam Timleck, Michael Clarke and Josh Coyle supplied the rest of the offence for Peterborough (23-28-6) as Matthew Mancina made 35 saves for the win.

Brody Silk, Matt Schmalz and Brady Pataki scored for the Wolves (10-46-2). Samuel Tanguay turned away 37-of-41 shots in defeat.

SPITFIRES 4 67's 3 (OT)

WINDSOR, Ont. — Trevor Murphy scored twice, including the winner 35 seconds into overtime, as the Spitfires edged Ottawa.

Lucas Venuto and Cristiano DiGiacinto also scored for Windsor (24-30-3) and Slater Doggett tacked on three assists. Alex Fotinos made 27 saves for the win.

Travis Konecny had a goal for the 67's (33-21-4) and picked up helpers on goals by Jacob Middleton and Alex Lintuniemi. Liam Herbst stopped 32-of-36 shots in a losing effort.

BATTALION 4 COLTS 2

BARRIE, Ont. — Hampus Olsson had a goal and an assist and jake Smith made 17 saves as North Bay beat the Colts to halt a four-game losing streak.

Miles Liberati, Brett McKenzie and Nick Moutrey also scored for the Battalion (29-17-11).

Joseph Blandisi and Justin Scott supplied the scoring for Barrie (37-20-2). Mackenzie Blackwood turned aside 32-of-35 shots in defeat.
