Hossa named NHL first star of the week with five goals over four games

NEW YORK, N.Y. - Chicago Blackhawks forward Marian Hossa has been named the NHL's first star of the week.

Hossa had a league-leading five goals and added an assist over four games last week as the Blackhawks picked up six of a possible eight points.

He extended his run of two-goal games to three early in the week, scoring twice in a 3-2 shootout loss to the Arizona Coyotes on Monday and in a 5-4 overtime loss to the Vancouver Canucks on Wednesday.

He added his fourth consecutive multi-point game with a goal and an assist in a 3-1 victory over the New Jersey Devils on Friday before being held off the scoresheet in a 2-1 shootout win over the Pittsburgh Penguins on Sunday.

Los Angeles centre Tyler Toffoli was named the second star with four goals and two assists in three games. He scored his first career hat-trick in a 5-3 victory over the Calgary Flames on Thursday.

Nashville goaltender Pekka Rinne went 3-0-0 with a 1.30 goals-against average and .954 save percentage last week to pick up third-star honours.
